Case Presentation

Wound at presentation on March 13th.

Image from March 31th showing serious poll puncture at presentation.

Patient presented to Rood & Riddle in Wellington, FL with a severe puncture wound over the poll. Radiographs confirmed a small avulsion fragment of the occipital bone and the location suggested possible disruption to the nuchal ligament and poll bursa.

Treatment

Over the span of a couple weeks, three Regenaflex-M membranes were placed into the wound. Patient also received antibiotics and anti-inflammatories, along with daily bandage changes and routine lavage to maintain a clean healing environment.

Images showing wound lavage (first image) and membrane placement directly into wound (second images).

Images from March 15th (first image) and March 16th (second image) show increased granulation at wound edge. Yellowing demonstrates breakdown of membrane into wound.
