Case Presentation

March 29th, 2023: Patient escaped yard after being spooked and fell on pavement resulting in  significant wound to shoulder along with smaller lacerations to stifle and hip. Shoulder injury was embedded with gravel and other debris due to fall.

Treatment

March 29th: Patient’s wounds were flushed with sterile saline and antibiotics. Regenaflex-M wound membrane was placed on the shoulder wound and covered with non-stick pad and gauze with suture loops. A small stent was placed below for drainage. Shoulder wound was monitored and 2 more pieces of Regenaflex-M were placed on wound over a few days.

Recheck Examination

April 23rd: Satisfactory tissue granulation around wound edges noted. Yellowing near wound edges indicated breakdown of membrane into wound. Area around wound cleaned, but membrane area left untouched to leave membrane intact.

May 4th: Wound smaller in size. Barn manager utilizing topical silver spray to assist in keeping wounds clean.

June 22nd: Upon final recheck at 12 weeks, Dr. Wayner observed significant healing with minimal scarring in areas where Regenaflex-M was applied. Lacerations on the stifle and hip that were too small to apply membrane exhibited more extensive scarring than the shoulder wound.
